Posting FAQ

Who can post?
Any registered user can post. Posts are moderated before being published, but it is possible to be upgraded to unmoderated status if you have posted more than five times and adhered to all site terms of use.

What can I post?
Posts must fall into one of three categories:

a) full length editorials (minimum 500 words)

b) news bullets (less than 500 words)

c) full length features (minimum 500 words)

Posts must comply with the editorial guidelines, site terms of use, and privacy policy, as well as all related information on the rest of this page. Please read carefully before posting.

How do I get started?
Click on the Login link at the bottom of the home page and then click on “Register” to create an account.

How do I create a new post?
Login and click on the Write tab.
The Title should give a reasonable estimation of the topic.
The body of your post goes into Post.
The Optional Excerpt is a summary of your post.
Pick the genre of topic by selecting the Category.

What information needs to be in the Title?
Remember, the Title is your best chance to tell other visitors (and spiders) what’s on the page. Profanity is not allowed in the title and clearly misleading titles are not allowed.

Do I have to add an optional excerpt?
You should cut a few sentences from your post and paste them into the excerpt. We use them for the summaries on the front page. You can also write a summary instead of cutting and pasting.

Do I have to pick a category?
Yes. The default category is Site News which is clearly not where you mean to post. You can pick more than one category if it’s appropriate. You can also suggest a category by e-mailing the site admin.

How long does it take moderated posts to be approved?
Within 24 hours of submission in most cases.

Why register for the site?
Registration allows you create an identity, edit your own posts, and, if eligible, become an unmoderated contributor. Registered users must login and use the administration menu to write and post content.

Additional Contributor Information

Your user profile must contain your first name and a valid e-mail address at a minimum. You can provide optional profile information, including biographical info, IM accounts and a personal website url. Any information shared on SmartReMarxcom is considered public and may be posted to the site. Your Display Name must either be your full name, or only your first name, as it also will be your byline for your work.

By posting on SmartReMarxcom, you give the website and its owner permission to reproduce your work on the home page or any derivative page including archives and single post pages of this website indefinitely. There is no explicit or implied obligation to provide compensation for contributors.

Contributing Images

SmartReMarxcom displays 5 panoramic images in its banner space, on its home page, archive pages, article posts, search results and policy pages. We will happily borrow your images to display in our banner space for at least 30 days. 5 Images are required and must be (or will be by the site editor) cropped to fit space specifications. The images must also be thematically connected. Photography or art is acceptable as long as it otherwise meets all terms of use and is received as a .jpg or .gif format.

Size specifications
width: exactly 760 pixels
height: between 100 pixels and 140 pixels

Images should be G-rated and the submitter must have rights to distribute the photographs. Full rights are retained with the submitter and you can request the removal of images at any time. Images will be posted for at least 30 days and full credit will be given to you.

Additionally, you can rank the images from 1 to 5 in order to indicate your preference for placement. 1 would receive the most page views, 5 would receive the least.

PLEASE NOTE: The site admin reserves the right to edit components (title, timestamp, optional excerpt) of your post to meet with site terms of use and may edit for grammar, spelling and visual elements related to web publication, as well as indexing and SEO. If changes are required to the main body of your post, you will be notified by e-mail. Private posts are not allowed. Post status will always be public. Posts should be relevant to the topic.

You are welcome to include a url link or e-mail address with your post or comment, in accordance with the terms of use of this site. Url links must be personal home pages or sites with which you have a direct affiliation as content provider, site administrator or web designer. All other links, including links to sites whose content exists for the sole purpose of hosting advertising, are not allowed.

Intentionally defamatory or pornographic comments or url links will not be tolerated, as well as content that is in violation of any law. The owner of this site will cooperate fully with law enforcement to investigate and prosecute any abuse of this forum for illegal purposes, including the promotion of other sites whose content violates this posting policy.
